In the middle of the XVIII century, the Princess Urszula Radziwill founded a professional theater in her residence Nyasvizh, in which the audience watched opera and ballet performances. After almost three centuries the castle of Nyasvizh was chosen for a unique theater project.
"Оpen-air festivals and concerts are extremely popular among theater-goers, tourists and opera and ballet lovers, - theater officials say - Festivals in the French Aix, on the famous floating stage in Bregenz, Austria, the opera festival in the castle of Alden Biesen (Belgium ), in the grand "Arena di Verona", in Athens, the Opera Festival in Avenches and Solothurn (Switzerland), Festival of Sigulda in Latvia, the opera festival named after Giacomo Puccini in Torre del Lago (Italy) are known all over the world." The residence of eminent Belarusian family was chosen for the domestic open-air palace.
The first time the festival was held in 2010. At that time the parterre in the courtyard of the castle consisted of only 600 seats. This year, that figure will rise to a thousand and a half. Last year, concerts and performances of the Bolshoi Theater in Nyasvizh were attended by more than four thousand people. The perfomances included in the program of the festival are held at several venues: at the courtyard of the castle, at the theater hall and at Church of Corpus Christi.
The concert of best opera soloists and string quintet "Serenade" will start the "Evenings" on June 21 at the theater hall of the castle. At the same evening, the courtyard of the castle of the Radziwills will turn into open-air theater, on the stage of which will be a show of the legendary ballet "Swan Lake" of Tchaikovsky (conductor - Honored Artist of the Republic of Belarus Nikolai Kolyadko).
On Saturday, June 22, the doors to the Romantic era of music will be opened at Nesvizhski Church of Corpus Christi. The audience will listen to performed works of Belarusian composers of the XIX century. The conductor is People's Artist of Belarus Nina Lomanovich. The admission is free.
On the same day theatrical platform of the Radziwill castle courtyard will become an arena for the political and human passions. The national opera "Gray legend" of Dmitry Smolski based on a libretto of Vladimir Karatkevich and lead by the honored artist of Ukraine Victor Ploskina will take place in the historical decorations. Main roles will be performed by stars of the Bolshoi Theatre: Oksana Volkova, Anastasia Moskvina, Sergey Frankovskiy and Stanislav Trifonov.
June 23, at the theater hall of Ursula Radziwill in the castle, the Belarusian opera stars will play a love triangle with an Italian accent in the comic opera “Rita, or the Pirate Triangle” by Gaetano Donizetti. Conductor is Ivan Kostyakhin.
In the final of the fourth festival "Evenings of the Bolshoi Theatre at the Radziwill Castle" will be a grand gala concert of the Belarusian Opera and Ballet conducted by Nicholas Kolyadko and Vyacheslav Volich. The public will enjoy popular arias from classic operas and ballet fragments.
During the festival, visitors can also attend the castle exhibition of Irene Rozhko dolls called "Small living room" and an exhibition of contemporary artists, which presents 25 works from private collections of Andrew Savich, Ivan Semiletov, Vitali Gerasimov and Vladimir Klimushk. The artists work in different fields of art - painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, art books. Their works are exhibited in the Russian Museum of Modern Art in New York, the American private collections, Portugal, Germany, Austria, and Italy.
Starting from June 28 until 30 art groups from different countries will gather in Nyasvizh on the International theater festival "Theatre Ursula Radziwill." It starts with an interactive batleyka performance "Miracle on Ursula." Several plays will be presented by the New Drama Theatre and the National Academic Drama Theater of Maxim Gorky.
The audience will also see the joint Belarusian-Italian project - commedia dell'arte "Pantalone of Verona." The author of it is an Italian theater director Mateo Spiazzo. Music House "Classic" invites visitors to the premiere "Radziwill's Journey to Italy" with Yuri Zhigimont and the authentic music ensemble "Cantabile".
The State Dance Ensemble of Belarus will present a choreographic composition "Song of the Bison". "The program tells us about historic personalities of high spiritual honor who selflessly serviced to the motherland, - stated in the summary for the play. - The examples of their lives became the foundation of self-consciousness of the nation. Euphrosyne of Polotsk, and Maria Radziwill, Kastus and Kalinowski, and Michal Kleofas Oginski, as many others, inspired the authors of the program."
